About American Circular Textiles

American Circular Textiles (ACT) is a coalition of leading fashion organizations that are committed to advancing circular textile policy in the U.S. ACT was founded in 2022 by Circular Services Group (CSG), a company that provides circular solutions for the fashion industry, and Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), a consulting firm that specializes in waste reduction and resource recovery. ACT's founding members include some of the most innovative and influential brands and platforms in the circular fashion space, such as The RealReal, ThredUp, Rent the Runway, Arrive, Fashionphile, Recurate and SuperCircle, as well as H&M and Reformation.

ACT's mission is to establish U.S. leadership in textile waste and circular fashion policy, with a focus on the waste hierarchy. The waste hierarchy is a framework that prioritizes the prevention, reuse and recycling of materials over disposal. ACT believes that textile circularity can reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry, which is responsible for 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 20% of global water pollution. ACT also believes that textile circularity can create economic opportunities and social benefits for American workers and consumers, by supporting domestic manufacturing, creating green jobs, and increasing access to quality clothing.

To achieve its mission, ACT engages with various stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, industry associations, NGOs, academics, and media. ACT advocates for policies that support textile reuse and recycling, such as extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws, sustainable procurement rules, and textile waste bans. ACT also educates the public about the importance and benefits of textile circularity, and showcases the best practices and innovations of its members. ACT aims to be a trusted and credible voice for the circular fashion community in the U.S., and to inspire collaboration and action among all actors in the textile value chain.
