SEACHOICE

SeaChoice is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable seafood choices in Canada. It was founded in 2006 as a collaborative initiative of four Canadian conservation organizations: the David Suzuki Foundation, Ecology Action Centre, Living Oceans Society, and Sierra Club of Canada. They develop and maintain a comprehensive seafood ranking system that categorizes seafood choices as "Best Choice," "Some Concerns," or "Avoid" based on their sustainability. In addition to seafood assessments, SeaChoice engages in advocacy and policy work to encourage responsible fisheries management and promote sustainable seafood practices. They collaborate with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations to develop and implement sustainable seafood policies and initiatives. As a non-profit organization, SeaChoice's activities are funded through donations, grants, and partnerships. Their primary goal is to promote sustainable seafood choices and protect marine ecosystems rather than generating profits. This allows SeaChoice to maintain independence and focus on science-based assessments and advocacy work to achieve their mission. Through their efforts, SeaChoice aims to create a shift towards more sustainable fishing and aquaculture practices in Canada, ensuring the availability of healthy seafood options for future generations and supporting the conservation of marine biodiversity.
