Worn Again Technologies
Worn Again Technologies is a company that aims to eradicate textile waste and shift to a circular economy. It is a technology licensing company that is developing unique polymer recycling processes that will enable raw materials in textiles and polyester packaging to be kept in constant circulation, driving economic, social and environmental benefits.
Worn Again Technologies was founded in 2005 with a determination to make a difference and to create a business out of solving the challenge of textiles waste. Starting in upcycling, it evolved in 2012 to its current technology phase which required lots of time and efforts along the eight years of development.
Worn Again Technologies' technology is a regenerative recycling process which is able to separate, decontaminate and extract polyester and cellulose (from cotton) from non-reusable textiles, polyester bottles and plastic packaging to produce dual outputs of PET pellets and cellulose pulp. These outputs can be used to make new textiles and packaging, creating a closed-loop system for these materials.
Worn Again Technologies has received investments from various partners, such as H&M, Sulzer, Oerlikon, and CPI, to accelerate the adoption of its technology and scale up its operations. It has successfully started up a pilot plant in 2019 and plans to launch an industrial demonstration plant in Winterthur, Switzerland in 2024. It also aims to start up its first commercial plant in 2027.
Worn Again Technologies is a leader in circularity and quality for the textile industry. It strives to deliver innovative solutions that meet the expectations of its customers and the needs of its stakeholders. It also seeks to contribute to the development of the textile industry and the society in which it operates.
