SUNWEST FOODS

SunWest Foods was established in 1986 to provide superior quality California rice and wild rice to National and Global rice markets. SunWest initially included SunWest Wild Rice Company, SunNuts Company and SunWest Organics. The firm further expanded with the construction of significant Milling and Warehousing projects: SunWest Milling Company Was founded after the 1991 purchase of a major rice milling and packaging facility. The facility was rebuilt in 2000 after a fire destroyed the original rice mill which dated from 1906. SunWest Wild Rice Construction began on the SunWest Wild Rice Mill, a world class food grade processing facility, in 2004 and was operational in August 2005 for the processing season. SunWest Specialty Rice Distribution This construction took place in 2006 with a 60,000 sq. ft. warehousing and packaging facility that includes 5,000 sq. ft. of cold storage. SunWest purchases, markets and processes rice and wild rice from over 300 farmers with 15% of the California rice production and over 40% of California’s wild rice production. SunWest Organics is the second largest marketer of Organic California rice. SunWest markets a broad array of California nut products through its affiliate SunNuts Company. In 2001 SunWest initiated a Scholarship program to support the development of future rice industry leaders. To date the program has awarded over $200,000 of scholarships.
