Steven Rice started his career in the food industry as a teenager. He found his love for food when he worked as a line cook at his father's deli in Los Angeles for about 10 years. While working at his father's deli, he received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Southern California. While at USC, Steve furthered his knowledge of food chemistry through working on various food-related research projects. To continue his food education, Steve mastered various culinary classes from some of the most famous chefs of the time. Once Steve finished his undergraduate education and his culinary education, Steve opened his own restaurant in the Farmer's Market in Los Angeles. After about 15 years of owning his own thriving restaurant, Steve decided he wanted to make a difference in more people's lives; so he decided to use his culinary knowledge to help those who could not eat wheat or gluten. As a result, Authentic Foods was born in 1993. The first gluten-free mix that the company produced was a falafel mix. Since then, Steve has led Authentic Foods to producing over 20 high quality baking mixes and flours that are sold online and all over the world.
