About (Climate Registry)
The Climate Registry (TCR) is a nonprofit organization that sets standards and provides guidance for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reporting and reduction. The Climate Registry Standard establishes a consistent and transparent framework for organizations to measure, report, and verify their GHG emissions.
The Climate Registry Standard consists of several key elements:
Emission Inventory: Organizations are required to quantify and report their GHG emissions in a comprehensive and accurate manner. This includes direct emissions (Scope 1), indirect emissions from purchased electricity (Scope 2), and other indirect emissions (Scope 3) as relevant.
Reporting and Verification: Organizations must report their emissions annually using the protocols and calculation methodologies specified by TCR. The reported data undergoes independent verification to ensure accuracy and credibility.
Data Management: The standard emphasizes proper data management practices to ensure the integrity and consistency of emissions data. This includes documentation, quality control, and data retention procedures.
Emission Reduction Targets: TCR encourages organizations to set GHG emission reduction targets to demonstrate their commitment to mitigating climate change. Targets can be based on absolute emissions, intensity metrics, or other appropriate measures.
Transparency and Disclosure: Organizations are required to publicly disclose their emissions data and reduction efforts, contributing to the overall transparency and accountability of climate actions.
By adhering to the Climate Registry Standard, organizations demonstrate their commitment to addressing climate change and tracking progress in reducing GHG emissions. The standard provides a common language and framework for consistent reporting, allowing for meaningful comparisons and benchmarking across sectors and jurisdictions.
