The company was founded in 1975 by Francis Charles Pollet as a family boutique. It has its headquarters in Marcq-en-Baroeul, France. Promod SAS started with a strong presence in France and Belgium and began its international expansion in 1990, opening a subsidiary in Spain, followed by other locations primarily in Europe. The company's product range is diverse, including tops, dresses, knitwear, shirts, jackets, trousers, leggings, jeans, cropped trousers, shorts, skirts, coats, footwear, accessories, and jewelry items. The leadership of the company saw a change in September 2018 when Patrice Lepoutre stepped down, and Julien Pollet, a member of the founding family, took over the management of the group. In 2024, the company opened a boutique-laboratory that combines second-hand goods, unsold items, sewing kits, and workshops to introduce people to sewing and upcycling, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
