founding in 1885 the Kindermann brothers (from Oberwiesenthal in the Erzgebirge) founded the Julius Kindermann AG company in Lodz by taking over the “Widzewer Manufaktur AG” company in Lodz. Before the Second World War, Julius Kindermann AG employed around 6,000 people and was one of the largest employers in Lodz. Lodz / Litzmannstadt was the "Manchester of the East". Magnificent Art Nouveau villas and factories still bear witness to the wealth of the textile companies there. Messrs. Kindermann were Russian citizens until 1919.
