Funktion Schnitt

🇩🇪 Germany

Funktion Schnitt GmbH is a German company that has made a name for itself in the fashion industry by focusing on sustainability and innovation. Founded in 2015 by Simon Harimann in Cologne, the company emerged from the idea that while there are countless T-shirts and basic clothing items available, few offered the added value of sustainability. This realization led to the creation of the Funktion Schnitt brand, which specializes in high-quality basics for both women and men, made from environmentally friendly materials that are designed to last and provide superior comfort. The company became part of Fond Of in 2018, a firm that describes itself as a platform for development, potential realization, and growth. Fond Of has been a member of the Fair Wear Foundation since 2016, a Dutch non-profit organization that promotes fair working conditions in the textile industry. The foundation enforces a strict code of conduct for its members, advocating for workplace safety, living wages, reasonable working hours, and the prohibition of child labor globally. Funktion Schnitt's collections are crafted from GOTS-certified organic cotton and Pima cotton from India, as well as European organic linen. The brand also offers assortments of T-shirts, hoodies, and jackets made from Tencel™ Lyocell, derived from wood fibers from sustainable forestry, and Seacell™, a material made from sea algae used in blended fabrics. The Merino wool for their sweaters is sourced from New Zealand, from sheep that are not subjected to the controversial practice of mulesing. The benefits of GOTS-certified organic Merino wool include temperature regulation, breathability, quick-drying properties, natural antibacterial qualities, and odor resistance. The cashmere used in their sweaters is composed of two-thirds recycled fibers. Their functional T-shirts made from Seaqual™ and organic cotton are dual-layered; the inner Seaqual™ fiber ensures quick moisture wicking, while the outer organic cotton layer provides a pleasant feel. Seaqual™ is made from plastic waste collected from the shores of the Eastern Mediterranean and transformed into a textile fiber. A recent addition to their materials is Refibra™, which involves upcycling cotton fabric scraps from production. Since February 2020, Funktion Schnitt has offered two styles that blend organic cotton with 30% Refibra™ fabric remnants. This innovative process recycles raw materials into new fibers to create textiles with microfine, moisture-regulating, and odor-controlling functions. All pieces are sewn with threads that meet the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. The production of Funktion Schnitt pieces takes place in Europe, specifically in Italy, Portugal, and Lithuania, ensuring high-quality craftsmanship and adherence to the brand's commitment to sustainability and ethical practices. The company's dedication to quality, sustainability, and the perfect T-shirt for everyone is evident in every aspect of their operations, from material selection to production and beyond.
