EOT Advisors was established in 2015, building on the concept of EOTs and reintroducing it in the United States. The firm's founders drew inspiration from earlier employee ownership models, including the Brotherhood of the Co-operative Commonwealth, established in Washington State in 1897, and the Columbia Conserve Company, founded in 1903, which was recognized for its enlightened labor-management relations. The firm's approach is informed by successful employee-owned businesses, such as the John Lewis Partnership, one of the largest and oldest employee-owned businesses in the world, which transitioned to employee ownership in 1950.
