About Topman

Topman is a British multinational men's fashion retailer that was established in 1978 as part of the Burton Group, which later became known as the Arcadia Group. The brand was synonymous with trendy men's clothing and was a staple on high streets with a significant presence in the UK and international markets. However, in late 2020, Topman, along with Topshop and the rest of the Arcadia Group, faced financial difficulties and went into administration. This led to the closure of all physical stores, marking the end of an era for the once-dominant retail giant.

In a strategic move to adapt to the changing retail landscape, Topman was acquired by the online fashion and cosmetic retailer ASOS on February 1, 2021. The acquisition was part of a larger deal that included other brands from the Arcadia Group, and it signified a pivot from traditional brick-and-mortar operations to an online-only business model. ASOS retained 300 employees as part of the transition but did not keep any of the physical stores, which put numerous jobs at risk.

The transition to an online-only platform allowed Topman to reach a broader audience globally, leveraging ASOS's established digital infrastructure and customer base. Despite the shift in its business model, Topman continues to offer a wide range of men's fashion items, including shirts, trousers, jeans, and suits, as well as accessories. The brand remains committed to providing trendy and affordable fashion to its customers, now through a digital storefront.

Topman's journey from a high street icon to an online retailer reflects the broader trends in the retail industry, where e-commerce has become increasingly dominant. The brand's ability to adapt and reinvent itself demonstrates a responsiveness to consumer needs and market forces. With its new digital-first strategy and refreshed visual identity under the stewardship of ASOS, Topman aims to maintain its position as a leading men's fashion brand in the competitive online marketplace.
