About Ragwear
Ragwear is a brand that has evolved significantly since its inception. The journey of Ragwear began in the late 90s, rooted in the skateboard scene, which at the time was gaining popularity and establishing streetwear as a distinct segment within the fashion industry. The founder of Ragwear, Holger Brodkorb, was not a skateboarder himself but a passionate snowboarder who found his calling in fashion while being part of the German indoor skate hall scene. His first foray into the fashion world started with homemade sweatshirts, marking the birth of Ragwear.
As the brand grew, it became a sponsor for Germany's first professional girls' skateboarding team, and its products, ranging from logo shirts and hoodies to jeans and jackets, began to be sold in trendy skate shops across the country. However, the brand's trajectory took a sharp turn in 2007, a decade after its founding. During a visit to a laundry facility in the North African desert, Holger witnessed the appalling conditions where chemical-contaminated wastewater from the denim production process was being discharged unfiltered into the environment. This eye-opening experience led to a profound reevaluation of the brand's values and practices.
In response to this, Ragwear underwent a transformation, redefining itself with a strong commitment to veganism and sustainability. The brand took a stand against the use of animal materials and began incorporating sustainable and recycled materials into its products. This shift not only aligned with Holger's personal values but also positioned Ragwear as a pioneer in vegan streetwear. Today, Ragwear stands as a testament to the possibility of responsible fashion, emphasizing the importance of ethical practices and environmental consciousness in the industry.
