About Kappa

Kappa is an iconic Italian sportswear brand that stands as a symbol of quality and style in the athletic and fashion industry. Founded in Turin, Piedmont, Italy, Kappa began its journey as a sub-brand of the Aquila brand under the Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT) company, established in 1916.

The brand's inception can be traced back to the 1950s, when a production issue led to a renewed and improved product line, marked with a 'K' for 'Kontrollen,' symbolizing a commitment to quality. This strategic move resulted in a surge in sales and solidified Kappa's position as a leader in the socks and underwear sector in Italy during the mid-1950s.

In 1969, amidst a textile industry recession and a wave of social change, MCT diversified its production to include casual wear, leveraging the success of its best-selling brand. This pivotal moment gave birth to Robe di Kappa, a line that would later become synonymous with casual and stylish sportswear.

The renowned Omini logo—depicting the silhouette of a man and a woman sitting back to back—was conceived almost serendipitously during a photoshoot for Beatrix bathing suits, another MCT brand. The striking image, initially unintended for the catalogue, evolved into the emblem of Robe di Kappa and, subsequently, the Kappa brand itself.

Transitioning into the late 1970s, Kappa embraced the sportswear and technical sports gear market, inheriting the original Kappa brand name and featuring the Omini logo. This move marked the brand's foray into a broader spectrum of sports apparel, where it has continued to thrive and expand its global presence.

Today, Kappa is celebrated for its innovative designs and high-quality products, ranging from clothing and footwear to sportswear. The brand has also established a significant presence in the world of sports through sponsorships and partnerships, reflecting its deep roots in sports culture and commitment to excellence.
