About John Richmond

John Richmond is a distinguished name in the fashion industry, known for his unique blend of street chic with luxurious precision. Born on January 8, 1960, in Manchester, England, Richmond pursued his passion for fashion by moving from Manchester to London, and eventually to Milan, Italy. His educational journey in fashion design culminated with a graduation from Kingston University in 1982. Richmond's career took off immediately as he designed his own collection under his name while also collaborating with renowned brands such as Armani, Joseph Tricot, and Fiorucci.

In 1984, Richmond established the Richmond-Cornejo label with Ravensbourne graduate Maria Cornejo. By 1987, he was working under his own name, producing three distinct lines: the main line John Richmond, the second line Richmond X, and the denim line Richmond Denim. The brand's ""Destroy"" range of clothing became highly collectible in the early to mid-90s, reflecting Richmond's irreverent style and iconic slogans like 'Destroy, Disorientate, Disorder' and 'Eat Cake'.

Richmond's designs have been influenced by musical movements, and his close ties with the rock music fashion industry have led him to dress stars such as Madonna, George Michael, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Annie Lennox, Axl Rose, Bryan Adams, David A. Stewart, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, Dita Von Teese, Kate Moss, Kaya Jones, Lukas Menzel, Nico Züchner, and Lady Gaga. His work has not only been limited to fashion but has also extended to collaborations with Iraqi fashion designer Reem Alasadi in London.

The brand has undergone a resurgence, reinventing its jeanswear origins and expanding into new projects and global initiatives. These ventures are not just focused on fashion but also encompass store openings, hospitality, and underwear. John Richmond's style continues to evolve, blending rock-meet-punk pret-à-porter with premium jeanswear, and maintaining its status as a brand that is synonymous with edgy, high-end fashion.
