About Indiska
Indiska is a distinguished lifestyle brand from Sweden with a rich history spanning over 120 years. It represents one of the oldest brands in the country, offering a unique blend of fashion, interior design, and accessories. The brand draws inspiration from global cultures, which is seamlessly integrated with the minimalist and functional Scandinavian style. Indiska is renowned for its distinctive prints, many of which are hand-painted by their talented print designers. The brand places a high value on handcrafted products, especially within its interior range, where furniture is handmade and home textiles are crafted using traditional block printing techniques.
The origins of Indiska can be traced back to Mathilda Hamilton, a missionary with a strong sense of social responsibility, who was inspired during her travels in India. She began by collecting various items from India, which were later exhibited and sold at her 'Indiska Utsällningen' or the Exhibition of India. This laid the foundation for what would become the Indiska brand. Åke Thambert later took over the business and transformed it into the well-known lifestyle brand it is today. He was a pioneer in using natural materials and expanded the product range to include more interior items and clothing for women, men, and children, all characterized by a colorful and bohemian style.
In 2017, Karin Lindahl acquired Indiska, becoming the sole owner and CEO. She brought a fresh perspective to the brand with a new product assortment and updated sizing, as well as revamping the e-commerce platform. However, following challenging times exacerbated by the pandemic and other external factors, Indiska Magasinet declared bankruptcy in October 2022. The brand was subsequently purchased by Färna Invest AB, which established the new company Indiska 1901. Yvonne Magnusson-Norling was appointed as the new CEO in January 2023.
Today, Indiska continues to thrive as a family business, selling its products in 44 stores across Scandinavia, on its international website, and through various platforms, with Zalando being one of the largest. The brand remains committed to its roots, celebrating the fusion of international influences with Scandinavian design, and maintaining a dedication to craftsmanship and sustainability.
