About Club Monaco
Club Monaco is a brand that epitomizes the concept of modern yet timeless fashion. Founded in 1985 in Toronto, Ontario, by Joe Mimran, Saul Mimran, and Alfred Sung, the brand was born from a desire for "better basics"—clothing that was classic, effortless, and contributed to the lives of customers by allowing them to live with ease. The founders, unable to find such pieces, decided to create them themselves, thus giving rise to Club Monaco's distinctive style.
The first Club Monaco store opened on Queen Street West in Toronto, and it was not just a place to shop but a place of discovery and community. The store's design was simple and clean, reflecting the brand's clothing sensibility, and featured a café that acted as a social hub. As the brand expanded across Canada, each new store retained its unique character, such as the Beach store in Toronto with its lifeguard station display and juice bar, and the Eaton Centre store with its restaurant and flower shop.
In 1999, Club Monaco was acquired by the Ralph Lauren Corporation and moved its headquarters to New York City. This acquisition marked the beginning of an expansion that would see Club Monaco stores opening across the United States, Europe, and Asia. In May 2021, Ralph Lauren Corporation sold Club Monaco to the Los Angeles-based private equity firm Regent, L.P.
Club Monaco's product range includes ready-to-wear, footwear, and accessories, and the brand is known for bringing in new collections each month. These collections alternate between elevated casual styles for spring and summer and more formal offerings for autumn and winter. While originally known for its classic "black and white" styles, the brand has evolved, and this is no longer the sole focus of each collection.
