Croatian Forests , a company with organic responsibility is the legal successor of "Croatian Forests", a public enterprise for forest and forest land management in the Republic of Croatia, according to, Zagreb, established by the Law on Amendments to the Forest Act (Official Gazette 41/90), with commencing January 1, 1991. Hrvatske šume doo is today a three-tier state-owned trading company with the Directorate in Zagreb, 17 Forest Branch Offices and 169 Forestry Offices. The company is headed by the President of the Management Board, the work is controlled by the Supervisory Board (both appointed by the Government of the Republic of Croatia), and the basic decisions are made by the Assembly. The company employs about 8,000 workers, of which 1,250 have university degrees.
