About BIO Hotels

The BIO Hotels certification is a program that focuses on promoting organic and regional products in hotels. It ensures that certified hotels only use organic-certified products that meet the standards set by Bioland or similar recognized eco-labels. While the aim is to prioritize organic and local sourcing, the certification allows for a maximum of three exceptions.

The main goal of BIO Hotels is to exclusively use organic products and prioritize those that meet the stringent requirements of Demeter, Bioland, or similar high-quality standards. This commitment extends to food products, beverages, and non-food items used in the hotels.

When it comes to wild-harvested products, exceptions are generally permitted as long as the product is sustainably certified. However, for beverages, only organic quality is accepted, and no exceptions are allowed for coffee and cocoa.

Non-food products used in BIO Hotels must adhere to specific certification standards for cosmetics. These include accredited standards such as ABG, BDIH, Ecocert, ICEA, or Natrue.

In addition to organic and regional product requirements, BIO Hotels also prioritize resource management and environmental sustainability. They rely on the Eco Hotels Certified ecolabel to ensure efficient resource and energy management. The hotels are committed to using 100% green electricity, controlling resource consumption, utilizing recycled paper, reducing plastic usage, and consistently optimizing CO2 emissions.

Moreover, BIO Hotels take pride in their use of certified organic and natural cosmetics, following the COSMOS standard. Some hotels even have their own line of organic cosmetics, such as miila mi.

By obtaining the BIO Hotels certification, hotels can demonstrate their commitment to organic and sustainable practices in various aspects of their operations. This certification provides transparency and assurance to guests that the hotel's products and services align with organic and eco-friendly principles. It also encourages hotels to continually improve their resource management and environmental performance, contributing to a more sustainable hospitality industry overall.
